When most people talk about supercars, it usually is about famous car brands like Ferrari, Lamborghini, and McLaren because they are known to make awesome sports cars. When you talk about family cars, you usually talk about Lexus, Lincoln, and Honda. Well, Lexus didn’t like that description too much and decided to show the world that they were getting serious about performance based vehicles, so they created the Lexus LFA.
The Lexus LFA was produced in 2012 and nobody expected it. Everybody expected a brand new sedan model, but no, this car is truly a supercar. This car has a massive V10 engine that produces 553hp and can do a 0-60 time in just 3.6 seconds with a top speed of 202mph. This was huge for Lexus as it was the fastest speed any Lexus had ever gone. This car was originally sold for $375,000, but do to its limited production of only 500 units, it can cost up to $600,000 nowadays. What also makes this car so much more expensive than its original pricing, at only 8 years old, is due to the fact that it was the first and last of its kind. It was not a predecessor to another car, and had no predecessor after the end of its production. The end was the end.
Since the Lexus LFA was Lexus’ first sports car, it wasn’t intended on being a very profitable project. Lexus designed this car to test if people would actually buy a Lexus designed sports car. They were also testing stronger engines that they believed would benefit the company. What Lexus did not see coming was how profitable this “test” project would become. Lexus sold all 500 units in just a couple of months, making the company millions of dollars. This project also helped the future of Lexus allowing them to continue making performance cars without worrying about whether or not the people would like it.
Throughout all of this rarity and extraordinary accomplishments for Lexus, the Lexus LFA is very popular for the exhaust tone it makes. This car was designed to sound like a Formula 1 car. It also has exhaust tips that were also designed to be shaped like the exhaust of a Formula 1 race car. The Lexus LFA has many small features that are also incorporated into the car that many race cars posses. One being the way they placed the exhaust pipes. This design is much different from the usual car and instead of putting the pipes in different areas, Lexus put all three exhaust pipes into one area just like a race car would ,one again emphasizing the sporty feel it should give.
This car is incredible and inspiring. It teaches other car brands to take unanticipated risks that might benefit the future of the company. This is also an amazing car if you want to be able to drive down the road without staring eyes. One of the very few things people complain about when owning a supercar is the unwanted attention that it brings. With a Lexus LFA, you don’t get that type of attention due to the fact that simply not that many people know or have even heard of this car. This is the street legal race car nobody really knows about.
