The Porsche 918 Spyder

The Porsche 918 Spyder is an extraordinarily rare, yet impressive car. As the name suggests, Porsche only built 918 units for the entire world. This car was originally sold in the high $800,000s, but easily went up to $1,000,000 with common options that almost every single 918 owner equipped their cars with. It has well over 800hp due to the V8 engine that produces 600hp, but it also has a electric engine adding almost 300hp. This car can do the 0-60 time in 2.4 seconds, making it the fastest ever, besides its 211mph top speed.

This automobile had the option of the Weissach package that costs $85,000. This package includes race seats, a rear diffuser, and all the carbon fiber you could want. This in turn makes the car 88 pounds lighter, basically paying $1,000 per pound lost. The lighter vehicle makes for a faster and higher performance rated car than the regular version.

The Porsche 918 Spyder, as said before, is a hybrid. This in turn is better for the environment and is also good for a tax return of a few thousand dollars, but besides that point, it offers instant power to your car. Also, it recharges by itself. When I say this, I don’t mean that it fully recharges itself, but adds minimal power back into the car as it slows down. Porsche figured out how to make the technology that would slowly recharge the electric engine every time you braked, by using the energy created from the friction created when breaking.

The Porsche 918 Spyder may appear to look like a coupe, but it is a convertible. The name Spyder usually indicates that the car will be a convertible car. In the Porsche 918 Spyder’s case,  the roof does not automatically retract into the rear of the car, you have to manually take it off. This is not a difficult process. You just have to unclip certain latches, and then you can conveniently put your entire roof inside your trunk. Once you have finished doing that, Porsche suggests putting an oddly shaped carbon fiber wedge that apparently diverts the air from hitting you, making the drive more enjoyable.

In the end, the Porsche 918 Spyder, in my opinion, is the best Porsche you can buy. It is expensive, but it is worth it, as it has the fastest 0-60 time in history. The Porsche 918 Spyder was released near 2015, but has already appreciated by $700,000, which is almost the selling price of a new 918 Spyder brand new.
