The Ford GT originally came out in 2003 and stopped in 2005. This was Ford’s first supercar. After 13 years, Ford came out with the new version of the original Ford GT. This limited production car of only 1,300 units came with a price tag of $500,000 before options. This car comes with one of the strongest V6 engines in automotive history, producing 647hp with an impressive 0-60 time of 2.9 seconds with a top speed of 217mph. Due to this car’s rarity, the prices have gone up to about $1,200,000. This car has some interesting features and a pretty neat story behind it.
The Ford GT Facts:
- The agreement. When the new Ford GT came out, you had to send a buy request to acquire the car. This buy request had to be a video, and you had to say your story along with your usual daily activities. This car was so important to Ford that they decided whether or not they would let you pay them for one of their cars! Many people applied and were declined simply because Ford did not want them. Once all the cars were sold out, Ford said what they were looking for in a potential buyer. They had to have the ability to publicize the car as well as share and drive it very often. Once you were accepted, Ford made sure that you could not give this car to anyone who did not have the chance to buy one by making a rather strange contract. One part of the contract said that you were not allowed to sell the car for 2-3 years and you had to have Ford’s permission before being able to sell it. If you did not comply within these rules, you were heavily fined.
- Race track legend. This car has an awesome history with racing, and has gone to win many of the world’s most competitive races, including the 24hr race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In Ford’s history, it has had a continual racing rivalry with Ferrari that dates back to the late 90’s. This rivalry has encouraged Ford to build the ultimate track car at that time, but it cost them over $1,000,000,000 in developmental costs. This led Ford to finally beat the legendary Ferrari racing team. Even until now, with the new Ford GT, Ferrari and Ford are some of the fiercest racing teams that are constantly impressing everyone on the track.
- Holes in the car have a function. If you look at the Ford GT from the front view, it appears that Ford forgot to fill in the enormous gap that is on both sides of the car. Well they did, but it was for a good reason. The reason for this is that it increases air flow and aerodynamics, making the car go faster and smoother at increased rates of speed. Also, the flying buttress that connects the outer exterior of the car to the center of the car is functional as an air vent. Although this design makes the car look cool, it brings air into the air vent and up the flying buttress, which then leads to the engine, decreasing engine heat for a more reliable car.
- The Options. As you know, this car is very expensive, but so are the options. One option that was most commonly bought was the carbon series. The carbon series modification added several snippets of carbon fiber to the exterior, and excluded cup holders and more seating space for the price of $70,000. The addition of all these things was mainly for people who wanted a more sporty feel by making the car lighter.
This car is truly amazing and is surprisingly capable of doing things that anger Ferrari and their near perfect racing records. Among the car enthusiast world; in a room full of exotic cars, the Ford GT still stands out due to its rarity and never before done design of the car’s sporty exterior.
